{"id":1700,"date":"2013-08-21T05:48:05","date_gmt":"2013-08-21T05:48:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.fraser.yt\/?p=1700"},"modified":"2013-08-21T05:48:05","modified_gmt":"2013-08-21T05:48:05","slug":"urban-exploring-in-malta","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/frasersm.it\/h\/urban-exploring-in-malta\/","title":{"rendered":"Urban Exploring in Malta"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We managed to squeeze in some urban exploring while we were over in Malta with a couple of abandoned Hotel complexes.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/frasersm.it\/h\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/wpid-9504922458_ff3f64945c_o_1.jpg?ssl=1\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" title=\"9504922458_ff3f64945c_o_1.jpg\" alt=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/frasersm.it\/h\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/wpid-9504922458_ff3f64945c_o_1.jpg?w=560&#038;ssl=1\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The first, White Rocks, was built as married quarters for the British army back in the 1960&#8217;s, and was converted to a holiday complex after the army departed.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/frasersm.it\/h\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/wpid-9504863290_89b2407b63_o_1.jpg?ssl=1\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" title=\"9504863290_89b2407b63_o_1.jpg\" alt=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/frasersm.it\/h\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/wpid-9504863290_89b2407b63_o_1.jpg?w=560&#038;ssl=1\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s easy to get to and hard to miss, being right at the side of the main coastal road a few miles outside Pembroke.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/frasersm.it\/h\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/wpid-9502060477_5a1dd6f5aa_o_1.jpg?ssl=1\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" title=\"9502060477_5a1dd6f5aa_o_1.jpg\" alt=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/frasersm.it\/h\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/wpid-9502060477_5a1dd6f5aa_o_1.jpg?w=560&#038;ssl=1\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The buses still stop at what was once the main entrance and there is a clear, unobstructed path into the complex.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/frasersm.it\/h\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/wpid-9502056667_446227f620_o_1.jpg?ssl=1\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" title=\"9502056667_446227f620_o_1.jpg\" alt=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/frasersm.it\/h\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/wpid-9502056667_446227f620_o_1.jpg?w=560&#038;ssl=1\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There were a couple of locals milling about who we first mistook for security, but none of them seemed especially bothered by our presence and just let us get on with it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/frasersm.it\/h\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/wpid-9501806483_ace311c8cd_o_1.jpg?ssl=1\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" title=\"9501806483_ace311c8cd_o_1.jpg\" alt=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/frasersm.it\/h\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/wpid-9501806483_ace311c8cd_o_1.jpg?w=560&#038;ssl=1\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>All the White Rocks photos can be found <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/\/photos\/paradasos\/sets\/72157635053288797\/show\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>. If you need a map to get to the area, it&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/plus.google.com\/113758296485810923662\/about\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The one other place we discovered was much further round the north coast on Mistra bay. We first spotted it on the return coach trip from Gozo and decided to return a few days later. This one was less open and required squeezing through a loosely padlocked gate.
